What is a
'Cabinet of Curiosities'?
A Cabinet of Curiosities, also known as a Wunderkammer (German for "wonder-rooms") originated in the 16th century and was a collection of diverse and exotic objects, artefacts, natural specimens (sometimes fake), artworks, scientific instruments, and other intriguing items. These collections would not only spark curiosity but also act as a rank signifier within social circles. Our collection presents items that would have been displayed in these cabinets.
